Morocco · West Africa
Dakhla sits on a narrow peninsula that juts into a massive lagoon on the Atlantic coast of southern Morocco, inside the Western Sahara. The combination of the Saharan thermal effect and the Atlantic trade winds creates some of the most powerful and consistent wind on earth — often 25–35 knots, day after day.
The lagoon is the star. Flat, warm, and waist-deep across huge stretches, it's a perfect training ground for beginners and a dream setup for freestyle riders who want to push tricks without fighting chop. The same lagoon that looks gentle from shore can produce 20 knots of side-offshore wind within minutes of a session starting.
The kite camps along the lagoon are purpose-built for the sport — gear storage, rigging areas, and instructors all in one place. It's a remote, immersive experience. No beach bars, no distractions. Just the wind, the water, and your kite.
The wind in Dakhla runs strong. Camps typically stock 7m through 12m kites. Having options in the 9–11m range covers most days well.
Twin tips dominate given the flat water conditions. Some camps carry directional boards for those venturing outside the lagoon to the Atlantic side.
Bars matched to camp kite inventory. Dakhla's lagoon camps generally run well-maintained, modern equipment.
Water is warm in summer (20–24°C) but the wind chill is real. A 2mm shorty or rashguard is common in peak season. Camps usually have some on hand.
